Darnell Motley is a skilled clinician committed to promoting mental health and wellness through an array of therapeutic approaches. Darnell has experience providing therapy to individuals across the life span and in the contexts of individual, couples, and family therapy. Darnell prioritizes collaboration, recognizing that the client is the expert on their experience and Darnell’s role is to provide tools which can help the client reach their goals.
Darnell has extensive experience working with diverse clients, including individuals who identify as racial, sexual, and gender minorities. Further, Darnell has spent multiple years working with clients who are impacted by grief, loss, and the impact of newly diagnosed health conditions. Given his work in these contexts, Darnell is also well versed in treating depression, other mood disorders, anxiety, and trauma. Darnell draws from a number of theoretical orientations in therapy, including psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and feminist schools of thought. In session, this often means exploring the impacts of a client’s context and identities in order to identify the best strategies for managing their challenges.
Darnell received his PhD in Clinical Psychology from DePaul University in 2016. After graduate school, Darnell completed a postdoctoral clinical psychology fellowship in LGBT Health at the Edward Hines Jr VA Hospital.
In addition to his work as a clinician, Darnell is also a sexual health researcher, lover of good food, and a writer of fantasy fiction.
